Lahore's New Road Develops Huge Crater

A segment of the recently constructed road in Johar Town, Lahore, collapsed on Tuesday, causing inconvenience to commuters and raising concerns about construction quality.

The collapse occurred on the road leading from Canal Bank Road towards Tikka Chowk near G-1 Market. Witnesses noted the sudden formation of a significant crater, posing a potential danger to passing vehicles. The incident, opposite Dua Chowk on the double road, worsened traffic congestion during peak hours, particularly affecting school traffic.

Despite citizen alerts, prompt response from the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) engineering wing was lacking. This delay left residents frustrated and vulnerable to the compromised road surface.

Residents expressed dissatisfaction, citing a history of similar incidents in the area and questioning the adequacy of quality checks during initial construction. They accused officials of neglecting infrastructure durability.

These recurring road collapses underscore systemic issues requiring urgent attention. Residents urged LDA Director-General Tahir Farooq to intervene decisively, directing authorities to address underlying issues and implement preventive measures for future incidents.

In response, the LDA DG assured residents of swift action, promising corrective measures. However, residents remain cautious, demanding enhanced accountability and transparency in infrastructure projects to avert future mishaps.
