The Islamabad High Court (IHC) temporarily halted the Islamabad administration’s decision to reduce naan and roti prices in the federal capital, following a petition from the Naanbai association against the notification. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri issued the order and admitted the plea for further hearing.
Earlier, on April 15, the capital authorities had announced a reduction in the prices of “Tandoori naan and roti” to alleviate the burden on the public. According to the notification, the price of Tandoori roti (100 grams) was set at Rs16, while naan (120 grams) would be sold for Rs20, effective immediately.

After failing to reach an agreement with the city administration, the Naanbai association approached the high court. Barrister Umer Ijaz Gilani represented the petitioner in court, while the Islamabad deputy commissioner was absent from the hearing, with representatives from the district administration present.
During the proceedings, Justice Jahangiri questioned a government official about the consultation with Tandoor owners regarding flour costs, expressing concerns about the notification’s issuance solely to appease the public.
Subsequently, the judge suspended the city administration’s notification and adjourned the hearing until May 6.
