Is Imad Wasim Considering Reversing International Retirement?

Imad Wasim, the celebrated all-rounder for Pakistan, showcased a stellar performance for Islamabad United against Quetta Gladiators, earning him the coveted title of man-of-the-match. Following his exceptional display on the field, Imad disclosed an intriguing conversation with Pakistan’s skipper, Shaheen Shah Afridi, who urged him to reconsider his retirement in a phone call.

In a recent interview with journalist Qadir Khawaja, Imad shed light on the phone call with Shaheen Shah Afridi. He revealed that Shaheen had reached out to discuss certain matters before the Pakistan Super League (PSL), but Imad chose to defer the discussion regarding his retirement until after the tournament.

Addressing queries about the possibility of rescinding his retirement, Imad expressed his willingness to answer Pakistan’s call if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requires his services. He emphasized his allegiance to the national team, stating that his commitment to Pakistan supersedes all else. However, he also affirmed his acceptance if the PCB decides not to utilize his talents.

Imad’s absence from the ICC ODI World Cup Squad in India last year stemmed from his lack of participation in one-day matches throughout the calendar year. Despite this setback, his notable performances in the current PSL season, such as a quickfire 30 runs against Multan Sultans and a commendable three-for against Quetta Gladiators, have garnered attention.

Looking ahead, Imad’s prospects for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June are optimistic. Given his familiarity with pitches in the Caribbean and the USA, where the tournament will take place, the Pakistan Cricket Board could contemplate including him in the squad for this prestigious event. Imad’s versatile skills and recent performances position him as a valuable asset for Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign.
