Iran Downs Drones Over Isfahan, Denies Missile Attack

TEHRAN – Iran has dismissed reports of a missile attack from Israel, confirming that no damage occurred as all drones targeting the area were intercepted. Iranian officials conveyed to international media that drone activity was detected near a military base in Isfahan province, a region known for its nuclear facilities. Reports of three explosions in the area were also confirmed.

Iranian air defense successfully neutralized several drones, with no current evidence of a missile attack, according to Hossein Dalirian, a spokesperson for Iran’s space agency, who relayed the information via the social media platform X. Additionally, the Tasnim news agency reported that the nuclear sites in Isfahan remain secure and unharmed.

This development follows claims by U.S. officials earlier in the day that Israel had initiated an offensive against Iran. However, there has been no official confirmation or statement from the Israeli government or military regarding these allegations.

Some media outlets had reported that missiles were launched by Israel, but Tehran has explicitly denied these claims for the time being. This incident comes shortly after Israel issued warnings of a potential retaliatory attack following Iran’s recent missile and drone launches, which were largely intercepted by Israeli and allied defenses.

The recent escalation traces back to an alleged attack by Israeli forces on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, which resulted in the deaths of six military personnel.
