Govt Pushes Cashless Economy with 5G and Digital Pakistan Plan

Pakistan is taking steps to build a modern Cashless Economy as part of its Digital Pakistan vision. Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima highlighted progress in digital development and upcoming 5G services.

Speaking about the country’s digital journey, the minister said that 3G and 4G services, launched in 2016, played a key role. These services helped expand internet access across urban and rural areas. She added that mobile users continue to grow, showing strong demand for digital tools.

The government is now focusing on faster connectivity. Shaza Fatima said the 5G spectrum bidding process was completed last month. This marks an important step toward launching next-generation internet services in Pakistan.

Officials believe 5G will improve internet speed and reliability. It is also expected to support innovation in different sectors. These include healthcare, education, and business services.

The minister explained that better connectivity will support economic growth. It will also help reduce social gaps by improving access to online services. Digital platforms are becoming essential in daily life.

A major goal of this digital shift is to promote a Cashless Economy. More people are now using digital payments instead of cash. Mobile banking, online transfers, and digital wallets are becoming common across the country.

Experts say a Cashless Economy can improve transparency and reduce financial risks. It also helps businesses grow by making transactions faster and more secure. The government aims to increase public trust in digital systems.

Shaza Fatima noted that Digital Pakistan is focused on building strong digital infrastructure. This includes expanding internet coverage and improving service quality. These efforts are expected to benefit both urban and rural communities.

The introduction of 5G will further strengthen these plans. Faster internet can create new jobs and support startups. It will also help Pakistan compete in the global digital market.

Observers believe that the shift toward a Cashless Economy will continue to grow. With strong government support and rising internet use, digital payments may soon become the norm.
