At least six people have been killed in fresh violence in Gaza despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement, according to local emergency services and hospital officials in the territory.
The Gaza Strip civil defence service said Israeli strikes and gunfire caused multiple fatalities on Sunday, marking another deadly episode in the fragile post-ceasefire situation. Hospitals in the region also confirmed receiving several bodies and treating wounded civilians.
An Israeli airstrike targeted the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing four people and injuring several others, according to emergency responders. The Al-Shifa Hospital reported receiving four bodies from the strike and treating at least five injured individuals.
An Israeli military spokesperson said the Jabalia strike had targeted “terrorists,” though no further details were provided. The military did not comment on separate incidents in southern Gaza where two additional people were reportedly killed in Khan Yunis by gunfire.
The Hamas-run health ministry said that nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10 last year, figures that are widely cited by international observers, including the United Nations.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army has reported several casualties of its own during the same period. However, independent verification of casualty figures remains difficult due to restrictions on media access and limited entry to Gaza, making on-ground reporting challenging for international agencies.
Tensions remain high as both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire, while efforts to reach a long-term political settlement remain stalled amid ongoing hostilities.
