The Punjab government has directed the Communication and Works Department to complete the Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala (RMK) Road by August. The project is expected to reduce traffic pressure on the Murree Expressway and improve travel for both tourists and local residents.
The RMK Road is an important part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Murree Development Plan. The government considers the road a key infrastructure project that will improve connectivity and support economic activity in the region.
Provincial Minister for Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth visited the construction site to review the project’s progress. During the inspection, he traveled more than 31 kilometers along the under-construction route.
Officials provided a detailed briefing on the project’s current status. They informed the minister that around 60 percent of the physical work has already been completed. They also said construction is continuing at a steady pace.
The minister instructed the project team to ensure the remaining work is completed by August. He emphasized that construction quality should not be compromised while meeting the deadline.
According to the minister, the completed road will make travel easier for visitors and residents. It will also improve transportation between Rawalpindi, Murree, and Kohala.
The Punjab government believes the project will strengthen regional connectivity. Better road access is also expected to support tourism and create new economic opportunities for businesses in Murree and nearby areas.
Officials said the improved road network will help reduce congestion on the Murree Expressway. Heavy traffic has increased because the RMK Road remains closed while construction and repair work continue.
To manage the growing number of vehicles, the City Traffic Police Murree have deployed additional personnel across key locations. Authorities have also placed the area on high alert to maintain smooth traffic flow during the busy travel season.
The administration has advised tourists and local residents to use alternative routes whenever possible. Motorists have also been asked to avoid unnecessary travel during peak traffic hours.
Traffic officials urged drivers to follow the instructions of wardens and maintain proper lane discipline. These measures are intended to reduce congestion and improve road safety until the project is completed.
Authorities also advised travelers to contact the Murree traffic control room if they face any travel disruptions or require assistance during their journey.
