Alienware M18 Debuts With The Fastest Laptop GPU

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]AMD has introduced its most powerful laptop GPU, the Radeon RX 7900M, and Dell has announced that the Alienware M18 will be the first laptop to feature it.

Before we delve into the laptop’s details, let’s discuss why the RX 7900M is the fastest available. According to AMD, the RX 7900M outperforms the Nvidia RTX 4080 mobile GPU, with a 7% average frame rate advantage and a significant 27% improvement in titles like Starfield. However, this increased performance comes at the cost of higher power consumption, as the RX 7900M can draw up to 180 watts, while the RTX 4080 mobile operates at a more modest 110 watts. The RX 7900M also incorporates AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR 3) upscaling technology, which greatly enhances frame rates in various games.

The Dell Alienware M18 features a large 18-inch display with options for 1080p and 2K resolutions, offering a smooth visual experience with impressive 480Hz or 165Hz refresh rates. The display has a fast 3ms response time and a brightness of 300 nits. It supports a wide color gamut, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 spectrum, and has a 1000:1 contrast ratio. Additionally, it includes AMD FreeSync and Dynamic Display Switching for improved graphics performance.

Powering the laptop is the powerful AMD Ryzen 7 7945HX R9 processor, which boasts 16 cores, 32 threads, and an 80 MB cache. It can reach speeds up to 5.4GHz, making it suitable for demanding computational tasks. Handling graphics demands is the AMD Radeon RX 7900M, equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, delivering strong gaming performance. It’s important to note that this GPU has a power consumption of 180W, which can spike to 200W with SmartShift Max technology enabled.

In terms of memory and storage, the laptop offers flexibility with configurations of up to 64 GB of Dual Channel DDR5 RAM running at a fast 4,800MHz. It also supports extensive storage options, allowing configurations of up to 8.5 TB in a tri-storage arrangement. The laptop is powered by a 97Wh battery and comes with a 330W charging solution.

The laptop includes a wide range of connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, Ethernet, various USB ports, HDMI 2.1, a mini-display port, and an SD card slot.

Currently available in the US, Dell offers the 1080p model of the Alienware M18 laptop, starting at a base price of $2,799.99. This model includes 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
