A US Senate bill aims to block security assistance to Pakistan

WASHINGTON – U.S. Republican Senator Marco Rubio has introduced a bill aimed at halting security aid to Pakistan due to its alleged threats against India. The proposed legislation accuses Pakistan of employing offensive tactics, including terrorism and proxy warfare, against India. It seeks to cut off U.S. financial aid to Pakistan if it is found to be sponsoring terrorism.

The bill aims to strengthen the U.S.-India partnership in response to China’s expanding influence, highlighting the importance of enhancing strategic, diplomatic, economic, and military ties with India. It suggests treating India in a manner similar to U.S. allies like Japan, Israel, South Korea, and NATO members regarding technology transfers. Additionally, the bill proposes a limited exemption for India from the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), allowing India to acquire Russian military equipment without triggering U.S. sanctions.
