Sohail Afridi Starts Street Movement in Lahore, Gets Big Public Support

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Saturday officially launched the street movement in Lahore, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from the public. Sohail Afridi began the movement by raising slogans in support of PTI founder Imran Khan and was showered with rose petals by supporters at various stops across the city.

During his second day in Lahore, Sohail Afridi addressed a ceremony at the Lahore High Court Bar Association and visited the residences of PTI leaders, including Hammad Azhar. He also went to Zaman Park, meeting PTI founder’s sister Aleema Khan. Speaking to the media alongside her, Sohail Afridi expressed his happiness to be at Zaman Park but said his joy was incomplete without his leader present, adding that the ruling authorities had become so power-hungry that “they could even break Pakistan into 50 pieces for the sake of power.”

Sohail Afridi criticized the government for avoiding dialogue and targeting opposition, citing the recent mistreatment of PTI members as humiliating and unprecedented. He also highlighted that Lahoris had always supported the party, calling Lahore “Khan Sahib’s city.”

Aleema Khan accused authorities of fear and moral weakness, saying roads leading to Zaman Park had been sealed and police stationed outside her home to intimidate them. She emphasized that the public’s support would overcome all barriers and that the street movement was only the beginning.

Earlier, addressing lawyers at the Lahore High Court, Sohail Afridi thanked the legal community for their respect and support, alleging that the Punjab government had paralyzed the justice system. He criticized police for ignoring court orders and claimed that the PTI founder believed the constitution would restore judicial independence. Sohail Afridi reiterated that PTI stood firmly with the judiciary and emphasized the constitutional right to hold rallies and protests, despite attempts to detain party workers.
