The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced a major discovery of gas and condensate in Sindh’s Khairpur district. The discovery was made at the Bitrisim East-1 well, adding significant volumes to the country’s energy reserves.
According to OGDC officials, the well will produce around 22.5 million cubic feet of gas per day. In addition, it will deliver about 690 barrels of condensate daily. The well was drilled to a depth of 3,800 meters.
Drilling operations started on June 30, and the company described the outcome as a breakthrough for Pakistan’s exploration sector. The OGDC spokesperson said the discovery would make a valuable contribution to national energy reserves.
The addition of new gas and condensate reserves is expected to ease the gap between supply and demand. Pakistan has long faced energy shortages, forcing the country to rely heavily on imported oil and gas. This discovery will help reduce that reliance, saving foreign exchange and supporting economic stability.
Officials noted that lower dependence on energy imports will also reduce the national import bill. This will provide some relief to Pakistan’s struggling economy, which has been under pressure from rising global energy prices.
The OGDC spokesperson described the find as an important step toward energy self-sufficiency. Domestic discoveries, such as the one in Khairpur, strengthen local supply while cutting dependence on costly imports.
The company emphasized that it remains focused on expanding exploration activities across the country. More finds are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring energy security and meeting Pakistan’s growing demand.
With this major gas and condensate discovery, OGDC has once again underlined its role as the leading player in Pakistan’s energy sector. Industry experts believe such discoveries will boost investor confidence and contribute to long-term economic resilience.
