Turkish Airlines has announced a massive fleet expansion with a deal to purchase 225 Boeing aircraft. The agreement includes both wide-body and narrow-body jets, strengthening the airline’s long-term growth strategy.
In a statement to the Istanbul stock exchange, the airline said it will acquire 75 Boeing B787-9 and B787-10 models. The order includes 50 firm commitments and 25 options, with deliveries planned between 2029 and 2034.
The Turkish carrier also finalized negotiations with Boeing for 150 additional aircraft from the 737-8/10 MAX family. This part of the order includes 100 confirmed planes and 50 optional ones. However, the final purchase will depend on successful talks with engine supplier CFM International.
The airline confirmed that it is currently in discussions with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for engines, spare parts, and long-term maintenance agreements for its upcoming fleet.
“With these purchases, we aim for our entire fleet to consist of new-generation aircraft by 2035,” Turkish Airlines stated. The company added that the shift would boost efficiency and support a projected average annual growth rate of 6%.
The announcement followed President Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington. During the talks, Trump suggested lifting sanctions on Ankara and urged the country to reduce imports of Russian oil. He also signaled potential US support for Turkey’s defense and trade goals.
This new deal is one of the largest in the airline’s history and highlights Turkey’s growing role in global aviation. By investing in modern and fuel-efficient planes, Turkish Airlines continues to position itself among the world’s leading carriers.
The agreement further demonstrates the country’s ambition to expand its aviation sector, with Turkish companies working closely with global aerospace leaders to strengthen future operations.
