Federal Government Announces Major Electricity Bill Relief For Flood Victims

The Federal Government has introduced major relief measures for electricity bills in areas affected by recent floods. The announcement also includes a farmers’ package to support agriculture and livestock losses.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain confirmed that the Federal Government is working to remove several charges from bills issued to flood-hit households. These changes may cover the removal of general sales tax, fixed charges, and the FC surcharge. Proposals are also under review to waive fuel price adjustment, income tax, surplus taxes, and retailer sales tax.

The minister added that provincial governments will waive land revenue for farmers. He also stated that inflated bills already issued in flood-hit districts will be corrected.

In addition to electricity relief, the Federal Government has announced a special farmers’ package. This plan will help compensate farmers for crop and animal losses caused by flooding.

According to Rana Tanveer Hussain, a survey of flood-affected areas will be finished within 10 days. Initial data shows that rice is the most damaged crop, especially in the Gujranwala division, where nearly 18 percent of fields were affected. Other crops, such as wheat and maize, suffered between one to three percent losses.

The minister said the relief measures aim to ease the financial pressure on families and restore farming activity in disaster-hit regions. He emphasized that both immediate support and long-term recovery plans are part of the government’s strategy.

These steps reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting citizens and farmers impacted by the floods. The relief package is expected to provide much-needed stability in affected areas.
