Rawalpindi police have launched a major crackdown against kite flying and aerial firing across the city. The operation targets activities that pose risks to public safety.
The crackdown was launched on the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera. Police are taking action against kite suppliers, sellers and those involved in kite flying.
Authorities have also introduced online surveillance to identify people involved in illegal kite-related activities. Police said repeat offenders would face strict action.
Officials will also monitor the transportation and delivery of kite-flying equipment. Goods transport services and other channels will be checked to prevent illegal supplies from reaching sellers and customers.
The CPO has directed senior police officers to personally supervise the crackdown. Authorities have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against kite flying and aerial firing.
Police said the operation would continue across Rawalpindi. Officers are expected to monitor areas where kite flying or aerial firing has previously been reported.
Citizens have also been urged to discourage such activities. Police asked residents to report incidents through the emergency helpline 15.
The crackdown comes amid continued concerns over the dangers associated with kite flying and aerial firing. Illegal kite string can cause serious injuries, particularly to motorcyclists and pedestrians.
Aerial firing also poses a serious threat to public safety. Stray bullets can injure or kill people even when firearms are discharged into the air during celebrations.
Police have therefore warned citizens against participating in either activity. Suppliers and sellers could also face legal action for facilitating prohibited kite flying.
Meanwhile, two police officials assigned to security duty at the CPO’s residence were injured in a separate incident on Sunday.
According to police, officials Faisal and Asad Mehmood were struck by a speeding motorcycle while performing their duties.
The injured officials were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. Their condition was later reported to be stable.
The incidents come as Rawalpindi police continue strengthening enforcement against activities considered dangerous to residents.
Authorities have asked citizens to cooperate with police teams and report violations instead of participating in or encouraging such activities.
Police said strict enforcement would continue and repeat offenders would be closely monitored as part of the ongoing operation.
