Kim Assures Xi That North Korea Will Back China’S Core Interests

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing this week. According to North Korean state media KCNA, Kim pledged that North Korea will continue to support China’s sovereignty, territory, and development interests.

Kim stressed that friendship between the two nations would remain unchanged, no matter how the international situation develops. The talks were held in Beijing on Thursday during his state visit.

Xi told Kim that China and North Korea are “good neighbours, good friends and good comrades” who share a common destiny. Both leaders discussed ways to strengthen strategic cooperation. They agreed to protect shared interests in global and regional issues and to expand visits among senior officials.

KCNA reported that Kim’s visit to China was a “historic occasion.” It said the trip further strengthened political trust and proved the “invariability and invincibility” of the long-standing relationship between the two countries. Kim left Beijing on Thursday after the talks. Senior Chinese officials, including Politburo member Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, attended his send-off.

At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Kim a congratulatory message marking North Korea’s foundation day. Putin praised the role of North Korean forces in the historic liberation of Kursk, describing it as a symbol of friendship and mutual support between Russia and North Korea.

Putin added that he was confident the two countries would continue to build a strong strategic partnership. KCNA noted that North Korea has already supplied soldiers, artillery, and missiles to Russia to support its war in Ukraine.

Earlier in the week, Kim also met Putin in Beijing. During that meeting, he promised that North Korea would “fully support” Russia’s army, describing this commitment as a “fraternal duty.”

The series of meetings highlight North Korea’s efforts to strengthen ties with both China and Russia while deepening its role in regional and global affairs.
