Strict security arrangements have been implemented nationwide, including in Karachi and Lahore, to ensure the safe observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, commemorated in the Islamic month of Safar to honour their sacrifices for Islam.
Across the country, mourning processions and gatherings are being held to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala, with additional safety measures in place.
Karachi:
The main procession in Karachi will begin from Nishtar Park this afternoon, following its traditional route through Numaish Chowrangi, Saddar, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, and MA Jinnah Road, before concluding at Imam Bargah Hussainia Iranian, Kharadar. Around 11,479 police officers and personnel are deployed citywide, including 1,113 at 642 Imambargahs, 2,901 at 501 majalis, and 7,465 along 108 mourning processions. Roads near the main routes will remain closed, with heightened security around Nishtar Park and nearby areas.
Lahore:
In Lahore, the main procession will start from Haveli Alif Shah and end at Karbala Gamy Shah, passing through the city’s main roads. Coinciding with the final day of the Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (RA), security has been tightened across Punjab. Over 37,000 police personnel are deployed across the province, including more than 12,000 in Lahore for 44 majalis and 14 processions. Province-wide, 644 majalis and 392 processions are scheduled, with comprehensive arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.
