The Government of Punjab has unveiled a major education-focused package in its 2026–27 Budget, placing schools, colleges, and student welfare at the heart of its development agenda. A total of Rs750 billion has been allocated to the education sector, accounting for more than 15 percent of the province’s overall budget.
According to the proposed financial plan, the allocation reflects the government’s long-term strategy to improve learning outcomes, modernize educational institutions, and expand access to quality education in both urban and rural areas. Officials say the investment is aimed at creating a stronger and more inclusive education system across Punjab.
A key highlight of the package is the continuation of the CM Punjab Laptop Program, under which 110,000 laptops will be distributed among students across the province. The initiative is intended to bridge the digital divide and provide young learners with the technological tools needed in today’s increasingly digital educational environment.
Student financial assistance has also received a significant boost through the Honhaar Scholarship Program, which has been allocated Rs15 billion. The scheme is expected to benefit more than 100,000 students, helping deserving youth continue their higher education without financial constraints.
The government is also expanding its School Meal Program to 13 districts, providing nutritious milk to over one million students. Officials believe the initiative will help tackle malnutrition among school-age children while encouraging higher attendance and improved learning outcomes.
Alongside these measures, the budget includes plans to upgrade school infrastructure through PEIMA-led projects, establish IT labs in 244 colleges, and expand special education services. Following the launch of Punjab’s first autism school in Lahore, the government now plans to establish autism education centers in every division while also developing new centers of excellence, leadership institutes, and STEAM laboratories across the province.
