Cultural Ties Strained as Tensions Between India and Pakistan Escalate

Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra has removed Instagram posts featuring Pakistani actresses Mahira Khan and Hania Aamir, as cultural fallout continues between the two nations in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. The attack has prompted a surge in digital restrictions and censorship, further deepening the ongoing diplomatic tensions.

Instagram has also restricted access to the accounts of these Pakistani celebrities for Indian users. When attempting to view the profiles of Mahira Khan and Hania Aamir, Indian users are presented with a message stating, “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has previously blocked several Pakistani YouTube channels, including news and entertainment outlets. These moves are seen as part of a broader effort to limit cross-border cultural exchanges, citing national security concerns amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan.

The latest actions reflect a significant shift, where digital platforms and cultural content are now being caught in the crossfire of political and military tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
