Pakistan has rejected recent remarks by Indian officials regarding an alleged strike on Kirana Hills, insisting that the country’s strategic assets remain completely safe and that there will be no compromise over their security.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi addressed the issue during his weekly briefing, questioning why such claims were being raised many months after the events in question.
Andrabi dismissed the statements as “Bollywood-style” remarks and said they carried no significance.
He reiterated Islamabad’s position that Pakistan’s strategic assets are secure and that their safety remains a matter of the highest priority.
The remarks come amid renewed discussion over claims surrounding Kirana Hills and last year’s Operation Sindoor. Various claims have circulated regarding whether the area was targeted, while statements attributed to Indian officials have also generated debate.
Pakistan to Host SCO Summit
During the briefing, the Foreign Office spokesperson also announced that Pakistan will host next year’s summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and assume the organization’s presidency for one year.
Pakistan’s presidency will formally begin at the upcoming SCO Heads of State meeting.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to travel to Bishkek to participate in the conference.
The SCO presidency will provide Pakistan with an opportunity to take a more active role in discussions on regional security, economic cooperation, connectivity and development.
Islamabad Continues US-Iran Diplomatic Efforts
Andrabi also discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran.
He said Pakistan was continuing to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions and finding a negotiated solution to the ongoing regional crisis.
The spokesperson said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s recent visit to Iran was part of Pakistan’s broader peace efforts. He rejected the impression that the visit was carried out on behalf of US President Donald Trump.
According to Andrabi, Pakistan has been working with friendly and brotherly countries to promote dialogue, negotiations and regional stability.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited Tehran on August 14, where discussions focused on reducing tensions, ending the military stalemate and finding a diplomatic solution.
Dar also held telephone conversations with the Turkish foreign minister on August 17, 19 and 25 regarding the regional situation and efforts to advance negotiations.
The deputy prime minister has also remained in contact with his Kuwaiti counterpart.
Pakistan Ready for Talks With Afghanistan
The Foreign Office also addressed Pakistan’s relationship with Afghanistan.
Andrabi said Islamabad remained willing to hold state-level talks with the Afghan interim government but stressed that Kabul would first need to demonstrate concrete action against terrorism.
He said Pakistan did not want to close the door to dialogue but that assurances alone were insufficient.
According to the spokesperson, Afghan authorities would need to demonstrate practical measures against militant groups and provide evidence that effective action was being taken.
The issue remains a major point of tension between Islamabad and Kabul, with Pakistan repeatedly calling on the Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan.
Islamabad Stresses Diplomacy
The Foreign Office said Pakistan would continue diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.
Andrabi reiterated that negotiations and diplomacy remained the most sustainable way to address regional conflicts.
The latest briefing highlighted Islamabad’s efforts on several fronts, including its response to Indian claims, preparations for the SCO presidency, diplomatic engagement over US-Iran tensions and continued efforts to establish a dialogue framework with Afghanistan.
