South Air is preparing to expand its domestic flight network with the launch of three new routes connecting major cities across Pakistan.
The airline will operate services between Peshawar and Quetta, Peshawar and Lahore, and Islamabad and Multan, providing passengers with additional options for domestic travel.
The expansion is expected to improve air connectivity between important commercial and regional centres while making travel more convenient for passengers who currently rely on road or indirect air routes.
South Air Gets Approval for Peshawar Routes
South Air has received approval to operate flights on the Peshawar-Quetta and Peshawar-Lahore routes.
The airline has also announced plans for an Islamabad-Multan service as part of its domestic expansion.
The new routes will provide direct connections between Peshawar and two major cities, potentially reducing travel times for passengers travelling between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
The development is also expected to strengthen connectivity between Pakistan’s major urban, commercial and tourism centres.
KP Governor Welcomes New Flights
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the approval of South Air’s Peshawar operations.
Kundi thanked the Pakistan Aviation Authority for approving the new services and also acknowledged South Air for agreeing to launch the Peshawar-Quetta and Peshawar-Lahore flights following his request.
The governor said the new air services would make travel easier for residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He also highlighted the potential economic benefits of improved connectivity, saying the new routes could support regional trade, tourism and business activity.
Direct flights can be particularly important for passengers travelling between distant cities, as they can reduce both travel time and the need for connecting journeys.
More Routes Planned From KP Airports
South Air is also expected to expand its operations to additional airports in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Governor Kundi, the airline plans to launch flights from Dera Ismail Khan and Chitral in the near future.
The airline has reportedly assured the governor that services from both airports will begin after new aircraft are inducted into its fleet.
The planned expansion could provide residents of these areas with greater access to domestic air travel and improve their links with major cities.
Boost for Domestic Air Connectivity
The expansion comes as Pakistan’s domestic aviation sector continues to seek improved connectivity between major cities and underserved regions.
The Peshawar-Quetta route, in particular, will provide a direct air link between two provincial capitals that are separated by a considerable distance.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar-Lahore service could offer a faster alternative for passengers travelling between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
The Islamabad-Multan route will also connect the federal capital with an important city in southern Punjab.
Officials and airline management are expected to finalize operational details, including schedules and flight frequencies, as the new services are prepared for launch.
South Air’s planned expansion, combined with its future plans for Dera Ismail Khan and Chitral, could further increase the availability of domestic air travel options across Pakistan.
