PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has issued a stern warning to the PML-N-led federal government: roll back the controversial Indus canals project or risk the PPP walking away from the coalition.
Speaking at a rally in Hyderabad, Bilawal made it clear that his party would not support any move that harms Sindh’s interests. “If it’s between Shehbaz Sharif and the people, the choice is simple,” he stated. Criticizing the government’s policies, he accused the ruling party of launching projects that hurt farmers, referencing both the wheat scandal and new agricultural taxes.

Bilawal also highlighted that President Asif Ali Zardari had already rejected the project in parliament, yet the government continues to push ahead. “PPP stands by its principles — we will defend the federation, protect farmers, and save the Indus River,” he said, announcing a major rally in Sukkur on April 25.
He slammed the federal leadership for ignoring the provinces, calling them “deaf and blind to provincial voices,” and stressed the growing threat to national unity.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah echoed Bilawal’s concerns, praising the Hyderabad crowd for their strong support. He recalled PPP’s consistent resistance against anti-Sindh projects, including Benazir Bhutto’s opposition to the Kalabagh Dam. Murad also took a jab at rival parties, accusing them of selective outrage and political opportunism.
