USC Raises Sugar Prices Amid Rising Market Costs

The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has increased the price of sugar by Rs5 per kilogram, bringing the new price to Rs145. This price hike is attributed to the rising costs of sugar in the open market. Despite the increase, sugar at Utility Stores remains more affordable compared to other retailers.

The decision comes amid growing concerns about the future of USC, as the Federal Cabinet recently formed a committee to assess the possibility of closing down Utility Stores operations. The committee, led by the Federal Minister for Industry and Production, has been instructed to submit its findings within a week.

In a separate development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review the launch of the ‘Nigahban Ramadan Relief Package.’ The initiative aims to assist underprivileged families during Ramadan by ensuring dignified distribution of relief. Citizens can register for the program via the PSER portal or at over 4,000 centers in the province, with the registration deadline set for February 15.

A dedicated helpline and online portal will ensure that the process remains transparent and accessible for eligible families.
