Punjab To Distribute 30,000 Laptops Under Laptop Scheme

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced the arrival of the first batch of laptops under the second phase of the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme, bringing good news for university students across the province. The initiative is aimed at promoting digital learning and improving students’ access to technology.

In a statement, the minister said 30,000 laptops have reached Punjab under Phase 2 of the program. He added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the distribution of more than 70,000 laptops among eligible students during the current year to support higher education and academic excellence.

The latest development follows the Punjab government’s allocation of Rs750 billion to the education sector in the 2026-27 provincial budget. The funding is intended to strengthen schools, colleges, and universities while improving educational infrastructure, expanding access to quality education, and encouraging the use of digital technology in classrooms.

According to the budget documents, the School Education Department has been allocated Rs600.78 billion for current expenditures and Rs13.18 billion for development projects. Out of the current expenditure allocation, Rs570.52 billion has been earmarked for grants and subsidies to district education authorities and public schools across Punjab.

The Higher Education Department has received Rs83.48 billion for current expenditures and Rs11.15 billion for development projects. In addition, Rs68.72 billion has been allocated for employee-related expenses, including salaries and other benefits for staff working in the higher education sector.

The Punjab government says the expanded laptop scheme forms part of its broader strategy to modernize education and equip students with digital tools needed for academic success. The distribution of laptops is expected to begin after the completion of administrative and verification procedures for eligible students
