Punjab Extends Electric Bus Service to Layyah

The Punjab government is continuing to expand its green public transportation network by extending its electric bus initiative to more districts under the Green Mobility vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The latest expansion aims to improve access to modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly public transport across the province.

As part of the new phase, 10 electric buses have arrived in Layyah, while five additional buses are expected to join the fleet in the coming days. Officials said the new buses will provide residents with safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly transportation while helping reduce carbon emissions and traffic pollution.

The expansion follows the Punjab government’s recent announcement of an electric bus service for Narowal. Under that project, 11 electric buses are scheduled to begin operating on six routes, with fares fixed at Rs20 to ensure affordable travel for commuters.

The provincial government has been gradually expanding its electric bus network as part of its broader strategy to modernize public transportation and encourage sustainable mobility. Officials say the initiative is designed to provide reliable transport services while reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

The Green Mobility programme also aims to improve connectivity between urban and semi-urban areas, making daily commuting more convenient for students, workers, and other passengers. The introduction of electric buses is expected to contribute to cleaner air and support the province’s environmental sustainability goals.

Authorities said more districts will be included in the electric bus network in phases as the government continues investing in modern public transport infrastructure. The expansion reflects Punjab’s ongoing efforts to improve commuting facilities while promoting clean energy solutions across the province.
