INX: Pakistan’s New Maritime Service Set to Revolutionize Global Trade
A new maritime service, INX, is set to commence operations globally on February 5th, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s maritime industry. During the launch ceremony on Wednesday, Vice Admiral Faisal Abbasi, Commander Karachi of the Pakistan Navy, addressed the audience, emphasizing Pakistan’s continuous efforts to form international partnerships aimed at expanding its maritime capabilities. The INX service, which links Pakistan to Europe, promises to facilitate the timely and efficient delivery of Pakistani goods to European ports and beyond.
Strategic Significance of Pakistan’s Location
Vice Admiral Abbasi highlighted Pakistan’s strategic geographical position at the crossroads of Central Asia, Southwest Asia, and the Persian Gulf. He underscored the country’s potential to utilize its marine, fisheries, mineral, and energy resources to generate significant revenue, particularly with the growing importance of the Blue Economy. He noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would dramatically expand Pakistan’s maritime capabilities in the future.

The Maiden Voyage and Service Route
The INX service will feature a weekly maritime schedule, with an 11-week rotation, covering the following ports: Karachi–Hazira–Mundra–Nhava Sheva–Colombo–London Gateway–Rotterdam–Hamburg–Antwerp–Karachi. The service will use 6,000 TEU container ships, ensuring a direct connection from Western India to Northern Europe. This new link is poised to enhance Pakistan’s standing in international maritime trade and bolster regional trade and transshipment opportunities.

Sohail Shams, CEO of United Marine Agencies (UMA), the exclusive agent for HMM in Pakistan, shared his excitement about the INX service’s potential. The India North Europe Express (INX) service is a joint venture between HMM, Ocean Network Express (ONE), and Pakistan’s United Marine Agencies. This collaboration aims to streamline logistics, create better connectivity, and drive economic growth in the region.
