Meanwhile, moderate rainfall, accompanied by strong surface winds, swept across Mecca as part of a broader weather system affecting multiple regions in Saudi Arabia. The National Centre of Meteorology issued warnings about medium to heavy thunderstorms, hail, and flash floods in areas like Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province.
In response to the inclement weather, the Mecca Municipality activated an emergency plan to address waterlogging and ensure the safety of both residents and pilgrims. Over 600 field workers, 52 specialized vehicles, and 32 large tankers were deployed to pump water and clear roads. These teams worked continuously in collaboration with local authorities to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of Mecca’s visitors.
The municipality emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the holy city, stating that the efforts were part of their preparation to respond swiftly and effectively to the weather.
The National Centre of Meteorology continued to issue alerts via its early warning system, advising residents and visitors to remain cautious, avoid flood-prone areas, and stay informed through official updates. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist through the evening, with gradual improvements anticipated later in the week.
