ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has reached an agreement with Meta to implement the “Take It Down” initiative, designed to remove inappropriate images from social media platforms. The “Take It Down” tool aims to address issues such as revenge porn, which has been on the rise and significantly affects teenagers’ mental health, reputation, and personal relationships.

Ayesha Raza from the National Commission on Child Rights announced the agreement with Meta during a meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights. This tool will enable the removal of inappropriate images posted on social media. Minister for Human Rights and Law Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted the ongoing efforts of various commissions within the Ministry of Human Rights, noting the progress made since the establishment of the National Commission on Child Rights.
The updated tool allows minors to report objectionable content through an app. It lets users create a digital fingerprint or hash of their sensitive photos, which is stored anonymously in Meta’s database. If the same photo is uploaded elsewhere, it will be detected, reviewed, and removed from Meta’s platforms.
