The Sindh government has announced plans to distribute Pink Electric Scooters to women in Mirpurkhas during the next phase of its women’s mobility program.
Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said the initiative has received strong interest from women across the province.
According to the minister, more than 50,000 women have applied for the Pink Electric Scooter and training program so far. The large number of applications reflects growing demand for affordable and independent transportation.
Memon said the Sindh government has already provided driving and related training to more than 2,000 women. Training sessions are currently continuing in several cities across the province.
These include Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad. The training is designed to help women operate scooters safely and confidently.
The provincial government aims to train more women as part of its efforts to improve mobility. Officials believe better transportation access can also help women participate more actively in education, employment and other economic activities.
Memon said the government allocated 925 scooters during the first phase of the program. Another 476 scooters were allocated for the second phase.
So far, more than 810 Pink Electric Scooters have been distributed free of cost to women across Sindh.
The distributed scooters include 410 in Karachi, 200 in Sukkur and another 200 in Hyderabad. The government now plans to expand the program to additional areas of the province.
Mirpurkhas is expected to receive scooters during the upcoming phase. The move will give women in the city an opportunity to benefit from the provincial government’s transportation initiative.
The program is intended to provide women with greater independence in their daily travel. It is also aimed at helping them reach educational institutions, workplaces and other destinations more easily.
The government has linked the scooter distribution with driving training to promote safer use of the vehicles. Women participating in the program are being encouraged to develop the necessary riding skills before using the scooters.
Officials say the initiative can also help women overcome transportation barriers. Reliable personal transport can make it easier for women to travel for work, education and other responsibilities.
The expansion to Mirpurkhas marks another step in the Sindh government’s plan to take the women’s mobility program beyond major cities.
Memon said the government intends to expand the initiative to more parts of Sindh in the future. The program is being presented as an effort to provide safer and more dignified transportation options for women.
With tens of thousands of applications already submitted, the initiative has attracted considerable interest among women across the province.
The government is expected to continue training applicants and distributing scooters as additional phases of the program are rolled out.
