Diesel Price Expected to Drop by Rs. 30-32 After Talks

The government has secured an expected reduction of Rs. 30-32 in the price of diesel. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik announced the development after talks with local oil refineries.

The agreement followed several meetings between government officials and refinery representatives. These meetings were held on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The exact reduction in diesel prices has not been finalized yet. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will complete its calculations later tonight.

The final price adjustment will depend on OGRA’s calculations. The authority will determine the applicable reduction after reviewing the relevant pricing data.

The expected cut could provide relief to consumers using diesel for daily activities. Farmers are among the groups likely to benefit from lower fuel costs.

Many farmers use diesel to operate tractors and tube wells. A reduction could help lower some operating expenses for agricultural activities.

People who depend on diesel-powered public transport may also benefit. Lower fuel costs could reduce pressure on transport operators and passengers.

The government said it has already taken steps to protect consumers from higher petroleum prices. According to the minister, more than Rs. 100 billion has been spent.

The amount was spent over the past three to four months. The spending was aimed at reducing the impact of rising petroleum prices on consumers.

The latest agreement with refineries comes as the government continues discussions about the petroleum sector. Officials are also considering longer-term measures for the local refining industry.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik said work will begin on upgrading Pakistan’s oil refineries. The government plans to start this process in the coming days.

The planned upgrades are expected to support improvements in the country’s refining capacity. Modernization could also help strengthen the domestic petroleum supply chain.

Malik will visit Karachi next week with his team. During the visit, he will meet representatives of local refineries.

The minister said the visit will also provide an opportunity to thank refinery companies. Their cooperation helped the government secure the expected reduction.

The diesel price adjustment is expected to be announced after OGRA completes its review. Until then, the exact amount of the reduction remains subject to final calculations.

The government’s negotiations with refineries could provide short-term relief to consumers. At the same time, planned refinery upgrades point toward longer-term sector improvements.

Diesel remains an important fuel for Pakistan’s agricultural and transport sectors. Changes in its price can affect operating costs across several parts of the economy.

For farmers, lower diesel prices could reduce expenses related to agricultural machinery and irrigation. For transport operators, the reduction could ease fuel-related financial pressure.
