Lahore received another spell of monsoon rain on Thursday afternoon, providing relief from hot and humid weather but causing waterlogging and power outages in several parts of the city. Authorities have warned that more heavy rainfall is expected over the next few days.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore is likely to experience heavy rain and strong winds through Saturday, with intermittent showers expected until August 3. Temperatures are forecast to remain between 33°C and 36°C during the period.
Before the latest rainfall, humidity had climbed above 75 percent, creating uncomfortable weather conditions across the provincial capital. The rain brought a noticeable drop in temperature, offering temporary relief to residents.
The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall on July 30 and 31 could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore. Strong winds and thunderstorms may also disrupt traffic, damage weak structures, and affect routine activities across the city.
According to the weather department, a deep depression over eastern Madhya Pradesh in India is expected to move westward and gradually weaken over the next 24 to 36 hours. However, it continues to strengthen monsoon currents entering eastern and central Pakistan, increasing rainfall across Punjab.
The PMD has also forecast widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms in several Punjab districts, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan.
In response to the weather forecast, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore has placed its emergency teams on high alert. Officials have been instructed to keep major roads and underpasses free of rainwater while ensuring field teams remain fully deployed throughout the monsoon spell.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued a monsoon advisory, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and remain cautious in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents have been advised to follow official weather updates and emergency instructions as the fourth monsoon spell continues across Punjab.
