PKR Extends Winning Streak Against US Dollar for 208th Day

The PKR continued its positive performance against the US Dollar on Wednesday, recording its 208th consecutive day of gains in the interbank market. The latest improvement reflects the currency’s steady movement that has continued since late December 2025.

According to the latest exchange rate data, the PKR closed at 277.82 against the US Dollar after gaining three paisas during the trading session. Although the increase was small, it extended the rupee’s long-running appreciation against the dollar.

The local currency has maintained a consistent upward trend since December 25, 2025. Market observers note that recent gains have generally remained between one and three paisas per session.

A currency trader said that as the rupee becomes stronger, further appreciation naturally becomes more difficult. He explained that the exchange rate has reached a level where larger daily gains are less common.

The trader also shared his outlook for the coming months. According to his assessment, the PKR could reach 276 against the US Dollar during September or October 2026 if current economic conditions remain stable.

However, he also warned that geopolitical tensions and their economic impact could slow the currency’s progress. In that case, the rupee may remain above the 276 level until the end of 2026 or even early 2027.

Apart from the US Dollar, the Pakistani currency also showed mixed performance against other major international currencies.

The PKR gained one paisa against the UAE Dirham, while it remained unchanged against the Saudi Riyal. These two currencies recorded only minor movement during the latest trading session.

Against European currencies, the rupee moved lower. It lost four paisas against the British Pound and 73 paisas against the Euro.

The currency also performed differently against other international currencies. It gained 70 paisas against the Australian Dollar but declined by 26 paisas against the Canadian Dollar.

Financial experts closely monitor exchange rate movements because they influence trade, imports, exports, inflation, and investor confidence. A stable currency can support economic planning and reduce uncertainty in financial markets.

The continued strength of the PKR has attracted attention due to its long streak of consecutive gains. While daily improvements have become smaller, the currency has maintained steady performance over several months.

Future exchange rate movements will depend on domestic economic conditions, foreign exchange reserves, international trade, and global market developments. External factors such as geopolitical events may also affect the direction of the currency.
