PM Shehbaz has directed the immediate rollout of the federal government’s newly established national central data center, known as Sky 47, across all federal institutions. The move is part of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at improving public services and government efficiency.
The directive was issued during a review meeting on the implementation of the national digital policy framework held in Islamabad. During the meeting, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of building a modern digital system that supports effective governance and better coordination among government departments.
According to the prime minister, the Sky 47 data center will serve as a central repository for government data. The centralized system is expected to improve data management, strengthen security, and support digital services across federal institutions.
PM Shehbaz also directed authorities to convene the National Digital Commission at the earliest opportunity. The commission will coordinate with provincial governments and other stakeholders to implement Pakistan’s digital vision under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025.
The government plans to begin the digital transformation by focusing on key sectors that directly affect citizens. These priority areas include health, agriculture, housing, utilities, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Officials said improving these sectors through digital technologies will help enhance public service delivery and increase administrative efficiency. The Pakistan Digital Authority is playing an important role in implementing these reforms.
During the briefing, officials informed the prime minister that the digital transformation programme is also expanding into the energy and food sectors. Work is currently underway in 14 additional priority areas identified under the national digital strategy.
The initiative aims to improve institutional performance and support Pakistan’s economic growth. Officials believe digital reforms can strengthen trade, increase industrial competitiveness, and improve the overall business environment.
The government also plans to digitize the housing sector. Under the proposed system, every public and private property will receive a central identification number. This step is expected to improve property management and record-keeping.
Similarly, the SME initiative will introduce a unified digital identity system for businesses. Officials said this system will support business productivity and encourage more enterprises to become part of the formal economy.
The prime minister said the full implementation of the national digital vision will make government services more accessible. Citizens will eventually be able to use a single digital identity to access services such as banking, healthcare, property transfers, and government verification.
