The KP government has launched a Rs. 1 billion project to rehabilitate and upgrade 34 public parks across Peshawar. The initiative is part of the larger Peshawar Revitalization Plan, which aims to improve public infrastructure, recreational spaces, and urban development throughout the provincial capital.
The project was officially launched by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi during a groundbreaking ceremony held at Shahi Bagh. Speaking at the event, he said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s long-term commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more accessible city for residents.
According to officials, construction and rehabilitation work has already started simultaneously at all 34 parks. The government expects the work to be completed within the approved timeline. Authorities believe the project will provide improved public spaces for families, children, and visitors across Peshawar.
The KP government has divided the project into five execution packages. This approach is intended to ensure efficient implementation and timely completion of all planned activities. Officials said the work will include landscaping, modern recreational facilities, upgraded public amenities, and improved accessibility for visitors.
The upgraded parks are expected to provide better environments for outdoor activities and community gatherings. Authorities also hope the improvements will encourage healthier lifestyles by offering safe and attractive public spaces.
During the ceremony, the chief minister appreciated the efforts of the Peshawar Development Authority, the Local Government Department, and other implementing agencies. He praised their cooperation in moving forward with the large-scale urban development project.
The park rehabilitation programme is one part of the broader Peshawar Revitalization Plan. According to the chief minister, development projects worth around Rs. 200 billion are currently underway in the city. These initiatives are designed to improve infrastructure, transport systems, and public services.
The KP administration said these investments are aimed at supporting long-term urban growth while improving the quality of life for residents. Officials believe better infrastructure will also strengthen economic activity and make the city more attractive for future investment.
The chief minister also announced that the proposed Urban Train Project has been included in the Annual Development Program (ADP). He said the project will be launched in the near future after completing the required planning and administrative procedures.
According to the government, the Urban Train Project will provide Peshawar with a modern and efficient public transport system. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve daily commuting for thousands of residents.
In addition, the chief minister confirmed that the proposed Outer Ring Road has also been included in the ADP. He said the road project is intended to address increasing traffic pressure caused by the city’s continuous expansion.
Officials stated that the feasibility study for the Outer Ring Road is in its final stages. Construction work will begin after all technical requirements and approvals are completed.
