The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has put the province on high alert after forecasting widespread thunderstorms and rainfall in several districts until July 25. Authorities have activated emergency measures to minimize the impact of the expected monsoon spell and ensure a quick response to any rain-related incidents.
According to the latest weather advisory, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in 23 districts across Sindh. Areas likely to receive moderate to heavy rain include Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Khairpur, and Larkana. Thunderstorm activity is also expected in Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
Meanwhile, lighter rainfall has been forecast for Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Thatta, and parts of Larkana, with weather conditions expected to remain unstable throughout the advisory period.
PDMA Sindh Director General Salman Shah said all district administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert, particularly in Karachi, where heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning could damage weak buildings and infrastructure. He urged relevant departments to stay fully prepared to handle any emergencies during the ongoing monsoon season.
To tackle possible urban flooding, the PDMA has readied dewatering pumps, emergency vehicles, and technical teams. Low-lying areas vulnerable to water accumulation have already been identified so that drainage operations can begin immediately if required.
According to officials, 10 dewatering vehicles have been designated for Karachi, while Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas will each receive 25 vehicles. An additional 15 vehicles each have been deployed in Sukkur and Larkana to strengthen emergency preparedness across the province.
The PDMA also confirmed that its 24-hour control room is fully operational and continuously monitoring weather conditions. Officials said close coordination is being maintained with district administrations and other government departments to ensure a rapid response to any emergencies caused by the anticipated heavy rains and thunderstorms.
