Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced major changes to the province’s examination system. Manual paper checking will be completely phased out next year.
The government plans to introduce on-screen marking for examinations across the province. The move aims to make the checking process more transparent and consistent.
Hayat announced the decision during a press conference. He said the government would also strengthen accountability across educational institutions.
According to the minister, schools with weak academic results will face greater monitoring. The government will use merit, rewards and penalties to improve educational performance.
Continuous monitoring will also become part of the new approach. Officials will assess school performance and take action where necessary.
Hayat said Punjab’s examination reforms would provide students with a fair opportunity. Students will be assessed based on their actual performance and abilities.
The minister also highlighted improvements among students from minority communities. He said girls’ academic results had also continued to improve.
He linked these developments to efforts to remove cheating and outside interference. The government believes a transparent examination process can improve academic standards.
Punjab is also moving toward SLO-based assessments. These assessments will focus on students’ learning outcomes rather than simple memorization.
The education department is also working on a new curriculum. The proposed curriculum will include links to artificial intelligence.
The minister said these changes would support genuine learning. Students would receive proper credit for their academic efforts.
The reforms are also aimed at making examination results more reliable. On-screen marking could help reduce inconsistencies during the checking process.
The government expects the new system to strengthen trust in examinations. It also wants schools to focus more on improving students’ actual learning.
