Prime Minister SHEHBAZ SHARIF has directed authorities to limit electricity load shedding across the country.
Under the new instructions, no area should face more than two hours of load shedding. The directive was issued during a meeting in Islamabad.
The meeting reviewed the country’s current electricity supply and load management situation. Officials briefed the prime minister about the recent increase in load shedding.
SHEHBAZ SHARIF expressed concern over the situation in several cities. He directed authorities to take immediate steps to control the issue.
Officials said electricity generation had declined due to disruptions in RLNG supplies. The changing regional situation has also affected energy supplies.
Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz were also cited as a factor. Transportation difficulties have further created challenges for fuel supplies.
These developments have widened the gap between electricity supply and demand. As a result, authorities have been managing the available power supply.
SHEHBAZ SHARIF directed officials to prepare for possible further disruptions in RLNG supplies. He also called for the effective use of all available resources.
The government was directed to ensure that load shedding remains within the two-hour limit. Authorities will need to manage available electricity according to demand.
The prime minister also ordered a new system for handling consumer complaints. Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees will be established at distribution companies.
The committees will deal with complaints related to electricity supply and other power issues. They will also include representatives from the public.
According to the directive, these committees must become operational within one week. The move aims to improve the handling of electricity-related complaints.
Officials informed the meeting that consumers can already register complaints through helpline 118. After submitting a complaint, consumers receive a token number.
They are also provided with an expected timeline for resolving their complaints. The new committees are expected to strengthen this complaint resolution process.
The meeting also reviewed the impact of recent monsoon rains on electricity supplies. Officials said the national power supply was largely unaffected.
However, six consumers in Rajanpur district were reported to be affected by the rains. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
The government’s latest measures focus on reducing the impact of electricity shortages. They also aim to provide consumers with a clearer complaint mechanism.
The two-hour limit is expected to guide distribution companies during periods of power shortages. Authorities will have to manage demand and available generation accordingly.
The government is also seeking ways to address possible fuel supply disruptions. This includes better planning for RLNG shortages and transport challenges.
