The tragic death of nine-year-old Haniya in a firing incident involving a CCD official in Chakwal has raised serious concerns over police conduct, use of force, and adherence to standard operating procedures during law enforcement operations.
An initial investigation report has found that the incident occurred due to violations of established SOPs and operational protocols. The official involved has been arrested, while a comprehensive inquiry into the case is ongoing.
According to the report, the CCD official opened fire without fully identifying the target and without establishing a clear direction of fire. Investigators noted that direct firing was carried out instead of attempting to arrest the robbery suspects, creating a dangerous situation in a populated area.
The inquiry concluded that the official ignored safety protocols and failed to follow required procedures during the operation. As a result, the report has held a CCD official responsible for the incident and forwarded its findings to higher authorities for further action.
Investigators found that the robbery suspects had hidden in an alley, but the official reportedly did not know their exact location when he opened fire. CCD officials have also acknowledged that protocols were violated during the operation.
The report further questioned why the suspects could not be apprehended despite the activation of the Safe City surveillance system. According to investigators, the accused were allegedly involved in four criminal incidents in Chakwal on the day of the tragedy.
While the report confirmed that the robbers initiated the firing, it stated that the response by the CCD official did not comply with operational requirements. It also revealed that operations police were not informed during the exchange of fire, raising concerns about coordination between law enforcement units.
Meanwhile, an audio statement from Haniya’s father, Adeel Ahmed, has surfaced in which he demanded justice for his daughter and rejected financial compensation.
Describing the events of June 10, Ahmed said he was outside a relative’s house when two armed men allegedly surrounded him and demanded valuables. He claimed he handed over cash and jewellery without resistance, but firing erupted moments later.
According to Ahmed, CCD officials opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle, resulting in Haniya’s death and injuries to both him and his son. He further alleged that officials continued pursuing his vehicle after the shooting.
Haniya’s father claimed that at least four officials were involved in the operation and expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation. He called for strict legal action against those responsible and urged authorities to improve training for law enforcement personnel to prevent similar incidents.
The case has sparked widespread debate over police accountability and operational procedures. Key questions remain unanswered, including who bears responsibility for Haniya’s death, why direct firing was used instead of attempting arrests, and why the suspects were not apprehended despite available surveillance resources.
Authorities are expected to determine further action as the detailed investigation continues.
