Rain Expected in Lahore Despite Continuing Heatwave Conditions

A strong heatwave is expected to continue affecting large parts of Pakistan over the coming days, while several cities in Punjab, including Lahore, may receive rain and thunderstorms later this week, according to weather authorities.

The National Disaster Management Authority’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has issued a weather advisory warning that the ongoing heatwave will persist across southern and central regions of the country from June 7 to 12. The authority also forecast intermittent rain and storm activity in northern and mountainous areas during the same period.

According to the advisory, the heatwave is likely to be most intense in Sindh, southern Punjab, and low-lying districts of Balochistan, where temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal levels. Central and southern Punjab are also likely to experience prolonged hot weather conditions.

The heatwave is expected to affect Islamabad, northern Punjab, and upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well, with unusually high temperatures forecast between June 7 and June 10. Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Weather officials said a change in conditions is expected on June 11 and 12, when rain and thunderstorms may occur in several parts of northern Punjab and surrounding regions. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Sialkot are among the cities likely to receive rainfall.

Similar weather conditions are also expected in Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, scattered showers are forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms may also occur in northeastern Balochistan, including Zhob and Musa Khel.

Despite the expected rainfall in some regions, most areas of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar, are likely to remain under the influence of the heatwave and experience hot, dry weather.
