The case has also gained attention in online discussions, including GOOGLE search activity related to the development. Authorities say the investigation is still in progress and more details may emerge.
According to official sources, the frozen funds were traced to bank accounts in Mauritius. These accounts are held at Silver Bank and are registered under suspected individuals linked to the case.
The accounts are reportedly in the names of Ahmad Ali Riaz and Mubashira Ali Malik.
Officials said the action was taken under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010. The Accountability Court in Karachi approved the freezing of the accounts.
Investigators allege that the funds were transferred abroad using hawala and hundi systems. These informal networks are often used to move money outside regulated banking channels.
Sources said the money was first routed through the United Arab Emirates. It was later moved to Mauritius through suspected laundering channels.
The total amount was deposited into joint foreign accounts. These accounts now hold approximately $4.5 million, which has been frozen by authorities.
The development has also been widely discussed on GOOGLE, where users have been searching for updates on the case and related financial investigations. This reflects growing public interest in the matter.
NAB sources confirmed that legal steps have been initiated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These steps aim to pursue the case at an international level.
Officials added that the process of seizure and repatriation of funds is now in its final stages. They said cooperation with foreign authorities is important for recovery efforts.
Authorities also stated that this case highlights ongoing work to track illegal assets held abroad. NAB continues to investigate multiple cross-border financial cases.
