Summer Vacation Schedule Announced by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially announced its summer vacation schedule for 2026 while introducing a revised working arrangement aimed at improving judicial performance and reducing the backlog of pending cases.

According to an official statement issued by the court, the new summer vacation plan was finalized following consultations among the judges and upon the recommendation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The revised framework is designed to ensure that court operations continue efficiently during the vacation period and that litigants experience fewer delays in the hearing of cases.

As part of the new arrangement, judges of the Supreme Court have agreed to increase their working hours at the court’s principal seat in Islamabad during the summer vacation. The move is intended to enhance judicial productivity and facilitate the timely disposal of cases awaiting adjudication.

The statement noted that the updated plan differs from previous years in terms of the allocation of judges’ duties. Under the revised system, judges will spend less time sitting at the Supreme Court’s branch registries located in different parts of the country. Instead, greater emphasis will be placed on conducting proceedings and hearing cases at the main seat in Islamabad.

Despite these administrative adjustments, the duration of the summer vacation itself will remain unchanged. Supreme Court judges will continue to receive four weeks of summer leave, consistent with the court’s traditional vacation schedule followed in previous years.

Court officials explained that the purpose of the new summer vacation policy is to strike a balance between judicial rest periods and the need for uninterrupted court operations. By ensuring greater judicial availability during the vacation period, the Supreme Court aims to maintain continuity in case hearings and improve overall efficiency within the judicial system.

The court emphasized that the revised summer vacation arrangements reflect its commitment to enhancing access to justice, reducing delays, and ensuring that important legal matters continue to receive attention even during the annual recess period.
