The federal government has announced that overseas training will become a permanent part of the professional development programme for Pakistan’s police officers.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement while meeting assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) who recently returned from specialized training programmes in China and Türkiye. During the meeting, the officers shared their experiences with modern policing techniques, including advanced surveillance systems, new technologies, and effective law enforcement strategies.
Naqvi said the international training had enhanced the officers’ professional capabilities and would help improve policing standards across Pakistan. He emphasized that the government would continue exposing law enforcement personnel to global best practices.
The interior minister also unveiled plans to launch a pilot China-style law enforcement investigation center in Islamabad. The proposed facility will bring detention, investigation, and summary trial processes under one roof to ensure the speedy disposal of minor criminal cases.
He added that Pakistan will study successful policing models from different countries and adopt suitable practices to strengthen its own law enforcement system. Modern surveillance equipment and advanced drones will also be introduced to improve crime monitoring and prevention, while the Interior Ministry’s aviation wing will receive state-of-the-art drones.
Naqvi further announced that specialized investigation rooms would be established at the National Police Academy, and interrogation would be introduced as a dedicated subject in police training. Modern investigative techniques used in developed countries will also become part of the curriculum.
The government is also considering introducing new operational uniforms for police personnel. The meeting was attended by the commandant of the National Police Academy, the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and other senior officials.
