Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced summer vacations for schools across the province due to rising temperatures and increasing heatwave concerns.
According to the minister, summer holidays in Punjab schools will start from May 22, while educational institutions are scheduled to reopen on August 24. The decision has provided relief to students, teachers, and parents as severe heat continues to affect several regions of the country.
The announcement follows warnings issued by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), which predicted higher-than-normal temperatures and rainfall across Punjab during May, June, and July. Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious as extreme weather conditions are expected to persist in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has also warned about possible heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding, and strong windstorms in different parts of the country. Weather experts stated that rising temperatures could also lead to dust storms, hailstorms, and powerful winds that may damage seasonal crops, vegetables, and orchards.
The Punjab government’s decision aims to protect students and school staff from the intense summer heat and reduce health risks during extreme weather conditions.
Last year, summer vacations in Punjab were initially announced from May 28 to August 14. However, due to prolonged extreme weather conditions, holidays for both public and private schools were later extended until August 31 across the province.
