In a major relief for residents before Eid ul Azha, Abdul Raheem Shirazi has allowed loader rickshaws carrying sacrificial animals to temporarily use Canal Road in Lahore under specific conditions.
According to the CTO Lahore, the temporary relaxation will remain effective until Eid ul Azha and applies only to loader rickshaws transporting sacrificial animals. The decision was made to help citizens move animals more easily during the busy Eid season.
However, officials clarified that strict action against other types of loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws will continue as normal. Authorities said the permission is limited only to vehicles involved in transporting sacrificial animals.
Abdul Raheem Shirazi stated that drivers using Canal Road under this temporary permission must fully follow traffic laws and safety rules. He warned that strict action would be taken against drivers who violate lane discipline or create traffic problems on the road.
The CTO also clarified that rickshaws carrying construction material and goods such as T-irons, bamboo, and similar items will still not be allowed to use Canal Road.
Traffic police officials explained that slow-moving Qingqi and loader rickshaws often contribute to accidents and traffic congestion on Canal Road, which is one of Lahore’s busiest routes. Because of this, authorities are taking extra precautions to maintain smooth traffic flow during Eid ul Azha.
Officials said the temporary decision aims to balance public convenience with road safety as thousands of citizens purchase and transport sacrificial animals before Eid.
The announcement has provided relief to traders and transporters who rely on loader rickshaws for moving animals between cattle markets and residential areas. At the same time, traffic police have warned that strict monitoring will continue throughout the Eid period to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Authorities have also urged citizens and drivers to cooperate with traffic police and follow all safety instructions to avoid accidents and congestion on major roads during the Eid holidays.
