LUMHS Convocation Controversy Over Claim of 15 Gold Medals

The convocation of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has come under public discussion after a claim of 15 Gold Medals went viral on social media. The issue has triggered debate about merit, transparency, and academic fairness.

According to details circulating online, Dr. Hammad Azhar, son of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan, reportedly secured first position in 15 subjects. He was also said to have received 15 Gold Medals during the convocation ceremony. This claim quickly spread after a video from the event went viral.

The video raised questions among social media users. Many people questioned how a single student could achieve 15 Gold Medals in one academic session. Some users raised concerns about possible favoritism. Others called for a formal explanation from the university.

However, it is important to note that no official clarification has been issued by the university so far. The administration has not responded publicly to the concerns related to the 15 Gold Medals claim.

The convocation was held on April 25, 2026, at the university campus. It marked the 21st annual convocation of the institution. It also included the second convocation of Bilawal Medical College.

During the ceremony, a total of 1,707 students were awarded degrees and diplomas. This included 1,435 graduates and 272 postgraduate students. The event was attended by senior officials and government representatives.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan addressed the ceremony. He highlighted the university’s expansion and recent developments. He mentioned new medical institutions, including Bilawal Medical College for Boys and Liaquat Institute in Thatta. He also spoke about LUMHS Services Hospital and diagnostic laboratory services.

He further stated that the university has built academic links with institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China.

The controversy over the 15 Gold Medals has, however, overshadowed the academic achievements highlighted at the event. Many users on social media are now waiting for an official response.
