Interpol has reportedly issued Red Notices against property tycoon Malik Riaz and his son Ali Riaz. The development comes as Pakistan intensifies legal efforts to pursue ongoing cases involving the business figures.
The information was shared by National Accountability Bureau Chairman Nazir Ahmed during a briefing. He stated that a special team is being sent to move forward with extradition proceedings. However, the issuance of the Red Notices could not be independently confirmed through Interpol at the time of reporting.
A Red Notice is an international alert. It requests law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and temporarily arrest individuals. This is usually done in preparation for extradition or legal action.
Malik Riaz, who is 72 years old, is the founder of Bahria Town. He developed it into one of Pakistan’s largest private real estate companies. His son, Ali Riaz, aged 48, currently serves as the chief executive of the group.
Over the years, Malik Riaz and his company have faced several legal challenges. These include allegations related to land acquisition and development practices. The group has played a major role in Pakistan’s private housing sector but has also remained under scrutiny.
One of the most significant cases came in 2019. The Supreme Court ordered Bahria Town to pay dues to the Sindh government. The case was linked to land used for the Karachi housing project.
Malik Riaz is also involved in the Al Qadir Trust case. In that matter, he has been declared an absconder by authorities.
Pakistan began formal extradition efforts in early 2025. The aim is to bring Malik Riaz and his son back from the United Arab Emirates. Authorities say the process is part of wider accountability measures in financial and land-related cases.
In a separate international matter, Malik Riaz and his son agreed in 2019 to a settlement with the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency. They forfeited £190 million following an unexplained wealth investigation. The amount was later returned to Pakistan.
