Punjab Citizens Face New Roti Price Increase

Residents across Punjab have been hit by a fresh surge in roti price, as tandoor owners abruptly revised their rates, sparking concern among the public. The increase has been particularly noticeable in Lahore, where the cost of a single roti has now climbed to Rs15, while in several other districts it has reached as high as Rs20 per piece.

Until recently, roti was commonly sold at Rs14 across the province, making this latest adjustment another financial strain for households already coping with rising living costs. The revised roti price has been implemented in multiple areas, including Shad Bagh, Samanabad, Iqbal Town, and surrounding localities, affecting a large number of daily consumers.

Tandoor owners have defended the increase, citing the sharp rise in input costs. According to them, the prices of LPG gas and flour have surged significantly, making it difficult to maintain previous rates. They emphasized that if the cost of these essential supplies decreases, the roti price could also be reduced accordingly.

The President of the Nan Roti Association highlighted ongoing challenges faced by tandoor operators, particularly the inconsistent gas supply. He pointed out that many businesses are forced to rely on LPG, which is currently being sold at elevated prices, further increasing operational expenses.

He also stated that the association plans to formally approach local authorities to request an official revision in pricing, aiming to align rates with the current cost of production. The situation reflects the broader impact of inflation on everyday essentials, as consumers continue to feel the pressure of increasing roti price across Punjab.
