PRA Launches Crackdown on Tax-Evading Food Chains

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to launch a province-wide crackdown on major food chains accused of violating tax laws and failing to comply with regulatory requirements.

During a review meeting, PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra directed officials to take strict enforcement action against businesses that ignored previous notices and failed to address tax compliance issues.

According to the authority, ongoing monitoring has identified repeated tax violations by several food chains, including multinational brands operating across Punjab.

The PRA said it is using digital surveillance, data analytics, and Point-of-Sale (POS) systems to monitor business activities and detect tax irregularities more effectively.

As part of the crackdown, the authority plans to recover unpaid taxes, impose penalties, and initiate legal proceedings against entities found involved in tax fraud or deliberate non-compliance.

Officials said enforcement efforts will be intensified to improve tax collection and ensure that all businesses contribute their fair share to the provincial revenue system.

Chairman Sipra emphasized that strict action would be taken against businesses causing losses to the public exchequer. He added that the PRA will further strengthen audit mechanisms, enforcement operations, and the use of technology to enhance transparency and achieve revenue targets.

The move reflects the authority’s broader strategy to combat tax evasion and improve compliance across Punjab’s retail and food services sectors.
