The government of Sindh has introduced new operating hours for markets, shops, restaurants, and wedding halls. The decision has been implemented with immediate effect across the province.
According to an official notification, the move is part of austerity measures. These steps aim to conserve fuel amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Rising global concerns have pushed authorities to manage energy use more carefully.
Under the new rules, markets and shops in Sindh will close earlier than before. Businesses located outside divisional headquarters must shut down by 8:00 PM. This rule applies on all days, including weekends.
However, markets in divisional headquarters have slightly extended hours. They are allowed to remain open until 9:00 PM. This provides some flexibility for businesses in major urban areas.
The Sindh government has also clarified that several essential services are exempt from these restrictions. These include bakeries, tandoors, milk shops, pharmacies, and medical facilities. Hospitals, clinics, and laboratories will continue to operate without time limits.
Petrol stations are also excluded from the early closure policy. This ensures that fuel availability remains uninterrupted for the public. Authorities said these exemptions are necessary for daily needs.
Restaurants and food outlets have been given specific operating hours. They can serve customers from 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM. However, takeaway and home delivery services will remain open without restrictions.
Wedding halls and banquet facilities must close by midnight. This rule applies to all event venues across the province. Officials said this measure will help reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
The Home Department has directed strict enforcement of these rules. Commissioners and deputy commissioners will oversee implementation. Sindh Police will assist in ensuring compliance.
Officials stated that these measures are temporary but important. They are aimed at reducing energy usage during uncertain global conditions. Authorities also urged citizens and businesses to cooperate.
Experts believe such steps can help manage fuel demand. However, they may also impact business activities, especially in smaller markets.
