Over 100 Hospitalized after Consuming Spoiled Wedding Custard

HYDERABAD – More than 100 wedding guests were taken to hospital after reportedly suffering from food poisoning linked to a dessert served at a wedding event in the Qasimabad area of Hyderabad.

According to local reports, a large number of attendees, including men, women, children, and elderly individuals, began experiencing severe stomach discomfort, nausea, and vomiting shortly after consuming custard served during the ceremony. As their condition worsened, the affected guests were rushed to Qasimabad Taluka Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The sudden influx of patients prompted hospital authorities to declare an emergency. Additional medical staff were mobilised to manage the situation and ensure that all patients received timely treatment. Doctors and healthcare workers continued monitoring the affected individuals throughout the day.

Several guests stated that symptoms appeared soon after they ate the dessert provided at the wedding. Preliminary assessments conducted by local authorities suggested that the custard may have been contaminated, making it the likely source of the food poisoning incident.

Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon said early findings pointed towards the dessert as the cause of the outbreak. However, officials noted that a detailed investigation would be carried out before reaching a final conclusion.

In response to the incident, authorities directed the Sindh Food Authority to inspect the facility where the food had been prepared. The inspection aims to determine whether food safety standards were followed and identify any possible violations that may have contributed to the outbreak.

Health officials confirmed that all patients were in stable condition and receiving appropriate care. Most of the affected individuals remained under medical observation as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have launched a formal inquiry to establish responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, hospital staff continue to closely monitor the condition of those affected by the suspected food poisoning case.
