Pakistan to Digitize Passport System for Faster Services

The government of Pakistan has announced plans to digitize the country’s passport and immigration system. The move comes following the appointment of Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa as the new Director General of Immigration and Passports.

An official notification from the Establishment Division confirmed Randhawa, a BS-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, will lead the reforms under the Interior and Narcotics Control Division. His appointment takes immediate effect.

Focus on Efficiency and Public Convenience

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has instructed the new DG to implement comprehensive reforms aimed at making passport services fully digital.

Officials said the initiative will simplify procedures, enhance transparency, and reduce processing delays. The goal is to improve public service delivery and provide faster issuance of passports and immigration services nationwide. Citizens in Pakistan are expected to benefit from smoother, paperless processing.

Wider Administrative Changes

Randhawa was previously removed from his post as Chief Commissioner Islamabad and reassigned to the Establishment Division before receiving the new assignment. This is part of a broader administrative reshuffle in Pakistan’s federal capital.

As part of the reshuffle, Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf was appointed as the new Chief Commissioner Islamabad. He is a Grade-20 PAS officer with prior experience as Secretary Communications and Works in Punjab. He also served as Deputy Commissioner in Faisalabad and Mandi Bahauddin.
